Who We Are
Mission: To provide excellent recreational and educational opportunities while serving as stewards of its natural resources.
The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority (HCMA), commonly known as Metroparks, is a regional park system established in 1940 by the citizens of Southeast Michigan. Our mission is to provide exceptional recreational and educational opportunities while serving as dedicated stewards of the natural resources that make our region unique. With a deep commitment to enhancing society’s health and quality of life, we ensure year-round access to open spaces, outdoor experiences, and abundant resources for the communities of Southeast Michigan.
At Metroparks, we believe in the power of parks to enhance quality of life, promote well-being, and foster a deeper connection to the natural world—ensuring these spaces thrive for future generations.
What We Do
The Metroparks is a regional park system spanning nearly 25,000 acres across 13 parks in Southeast Michigan. Serving over 8 million visitors annually, we provide year-round outdoor recreation and educational opportunities, including hiking, biking, fishing, boating, golf, and winter sports.
Our parks feature more than 55 miles of paved trails, seven golf courses, and nine interpretive centers offering nature, farm, and history programs to nearly 1.4 million participants annually. Through our Mobile Learning Center, we bring these educational experiences to schools and communities, ensuring everyone can connect with nature and the outdoors.
